Why being a doctor matters

Have you ever contemplated, but then shied away from the idea of having Facial Aesthetics? If you have, you’re not alone. Aesthetics has had a bad reputation. It conjures up images of frozen faces unable to form any expression. Similarly with Fillers, the ‘trout pout’ is an image not easily forgotten. However, when FA’s are done correctly, and by a qualified professional, they can provide subtle natural results and you’ll still look like You. The key is to find an experienced practitioner.

The biggest concern for new clients is that treatments will radically change the way they look, but in the hands of a skilled practitioner, this won’t happen. Anti-wrinkle treatment will soften lines but it won’t erase them. You should look fresher but not frozen. Likewise, Fillers should enhance your features but not make you unrecognisable.

With Anti-wrinkle, the word ‘toxin’ can put some people off. We’re in the era of clean beauty and are more concerned than ever about what we put into our bodies. The idea of putting a ‘neurotoxin’ into our bodies may be a little terrifying, however, anti-wrinkle treatment is truly very safe when injected by an experienced practitioner and has in fact been used in medicine safely for three decades now. When it does go wrong, it’s usually the fault of an inexpert injector. All treatments have some risks of side effects (these are always discussed at your consultation) but these risks are much lower with a fully qualified doctor.

Another common question asked is ‘What happens if I don’t like it?’ Qualified doctors and dentists will always give the minimum dose possible and then review it 2-3 weeks later. Placing the Anti-wrinkle or Filler in the precise location is more important than the amount. Think about the ‘no make-up look’ - It’s not necessarily about how much you use but applying it in the right places. It’s better to top up 2-3 weeks later, if required, than to over inject at the first appointment and create a frozen face. Anti-wrinkle treatment typically lasts 3-6 months so you’ve got to get it right. Likewise, the full effects of Fillers are not noted until at least a week after treatment. A good practitioner will know this and not be tempted to over-fill.

Sadly, there are too many horror stories where over filling has occurred and a reversing agent has had to be used. Unfortunately this is uncomfortable, takes more time and inevitably increases the cost. It is therefore, important not to be solely guided by cost. Prioritising skill and experience over cost and convenience should be at the forefront of your mind. Your safety is paramount.

You may have already looked into alternatives. There’s no doubt that good lifestyle habits will help protect against visible ageing - daily SPF, not smoking, keeping hydrated, balanced diet e.t.c, however, you can do all the above, use the most expensive face creams, have regular facials but there is ultimately no substitute for the real deal! Nothing on the market compares to the impact neurotoxins and dermal fillers can have on wrinkles. Ultimately, the choice is yours but finding someone you trust is key.
